Hamburgischer Verein Seefahrt
Nearly 100 years ago the HVS was founded by Albert Ballin, a ship owner from Hamburg, in order to send a competitive yacht under the flag of Hamburg into the race against Kaiser Wilhelm's yacht "Meteor". Within the club the crews were trained under the aspect of "youth fitness by off-shore sailing".

Düsseldorfer Yachtclub e.V.
The Düsseldorf Yachtclub was founded in 1908. From the very beginning it's members sought competition, so the first regatta was organised in 1911 on the river Rhine from Benrath to Düsseldorf. In 1922 the first "Rhine Week" was organised in conjunction with other sailing clubs on the Rhine which took place between Andernach and Emmerich. In 1998 for it's 90th anniversary, DYC again organised the Rhineweek. Given the possibility to trail their boats, DYC-members could also compete on waters other than the Rhine and their successes to date include German Championships in the Star, Flying Dutchman, Laser, 470 and 505 classes and a European Championship in the 505 class.
