Victory 21
The Victory sloop was designed by Ted Carpentier, naval architect, and first manufactured by Henry R. McCune in 1959. It was designed as a one-design class boat, fully competetive in any range of of comparable boats. Some 126 boats were manufactured before it was sold to Wesco Marine. Wesco Marine started with boat #150, leaving a gap from #127 throught #149. Wesco began their production in 1964. They produced two boats: the Victory 21 and the Aurora 21. I understand the Aurora and the Victory share the same hull, but the Aurora has a cruising configuration for the cabin. The Victory displaced 1350 lbs. while the Aurora was somewhat larger, displacing 1800 lbs.

Petit Bateau - the short handed sailing association
Petit Bateau is a group of sailors scattered over twelve countries who are united in their love of short handed and single handed long distance yacht racing. Single handed and short handed (usually two people) racing offshore is a relatively modern addition to the sport of sailing. Allegedly, a half-crown bet between Blondie Haslar and Francis Chichester resulted in the first single handed transatlantic race in 1960.

Max Fun 25
MaxFun25 class Association.

Minis in America
A new organization with a singular purpose - to bring the "Mini", a 6.5 Meter (21 foot) open class, ocean racing sailboat to North America. The Mini - hugely popular in Europe but still relatively unknown in North America. Minis in America is working hard to change that. The final design is almost complete on a brand new Mini from Owen Clarke Design - the M65 - the first Production (Serie) Mini to be built in America.

Vertue Owners Home Page
Affixed to the wall of the harbormaster's office in Durban, according to Vertue myth, is a notice. 'In winds over Force 7, no yacht may depart without my authority. Unless she's a Vertue.' It is the kind of story owners of these modest little cruising yachts tend to take with a pinch of salt. Vertues have made pioneering voyages, survived savage storms, written themselves into sailing history. Indeed, more has been written about this 25ft 3in Laurent Giles designed vessel than almost any other. There is no need for myth. The reality is enough.
Most extraordinary, perhaps, for a yacht whose wake has criss crossed every ocean, is that she was originally designed to do no more than potter about the Solent, cruise the West Country perhaps and hop down to the Channel Islands, and that today you can pick one up for well under £12,000 (an early Vertue went for £4,000 quite recently). Legends don't come much cheaper than that.

Knarr San Francisco
The Knarr is a strict one-design, constructed in 1943 by Erling Kristoffersen of Norway. More than 300 wooden Knarrs have been built, and since 1974 more than 140 fiberglass hulls have been created with the same weight distribution resulting in identical performance under sail. The Knarr is a fast and stiff boat, stable in the toughest conditions. As a racing sloop, the Knarr is extremely popular partly because it carries only a mainsail and jib and can be ably sailed by a crew of two and partly due to the class rules which ensure that all boats are identical. As a cruising boat the Knarr is easy to sail. It can carry full sail in all strengths of wind and its robustness has been proven over the years.
