Description: The Internet Home of Monte Copeland. The catboat is a mono-hulled, gaff-rig sailboat. This roomy utilitarian boat originated in Cape Cod around 1850. Most were used for fishing, larger ones were used for hauling and passenger ferries. No one is sure of the name catboat, but it was said the boat was "fleet as a cat."
